Our Process

  • How your video gets made with our 10-step approach
  • How much it costs
  • Frequently asked questions

Consultation

Step 1: The journey to creating your first video with Filmkey begins by contacting us!

Step 2: A detailed call / online meeting where we:

  • Learn more about your company
  • Discuss what your target audience cares about
  • Set specific and achievable video objectives to give your project clear direction
  • Work together to explore creative approaches that would work best.

Step 3: We’ll prepare a proposal and detailed quote that works within your budget.

Planning

Step 4: Once we’ve agreed on a narrative idea and the proposal has been signed off, we’ll organise a pre-production meeting where we’ll:

  • Build a plan – while your content is unscripted, this plan details the key voices / interview questions / themes in your film and how we move from point to point to create a video that reaches your goals in an authentic, but structured way
  • Confirm tone / style
  • Discuss logistics – who will be filmed? Filming locations? etc.

Step 5: We’ll plan out a full itinerary and shot list for your video.

Filming

Step 6: Interviews – Your staff or customers serve as the backbone of your video providing compelling words that hit your key messages. We use proven techniques to ensure everyone comes across relaxed and confident on-screen and encourage speaker informality which adds to credibility.

Step 7: Cutaways – Our experienced team can utilise two different methods of capturing the footage that makes your video engaging, depending on the feel required:

  • Documentary –  handheld “actuality” footage (moments as they happen), which brings across a raw feeling of authenticity
  • Lightly-directed – more polished scenes resulting from letting our subjects loose in a pre-arranged location – e.g. performing an activity for 10 minutes while we cover the scene from various angles using a variety of lenses/tools.

We use broadcast standard equipment – from 4K cameras to lighting, sound equipment, gimbals, motion control sliders, and drones.

Editing

Step 8: Rough Cuts – We’ll shape a captivating story that simplifies your core message, maintains a conversational tone, and hits your project goals. The video at this stage includes:

  • Meticulously edited interviews
  • All cutaways
  • A stock-free music track
  • Basic captions / graphics.

Cuts are shared via a private link for you to access online.

Step 9: Amends – usually there are two rounds of amends before we reach a cut that’s ready to be polished up.

Step 10: Final Cut – This is where your video is perfected and elevated to another level to fully connect with your audience.

  • Beautiful colour grading
  • Polished graphic animation
  • Immersive sound design/sound mixing
  • Subtitling
  • Optimisation for social media
  • Delivery – once signed off, the final cut will be delivered via secure online transfer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much input do you need from me?

You can have as little or as much input as you’d like. That said, we do insist that you give us a detailed brief at the start via our form, email or phone call.

How long does filming take?

Filming duration can vary dramatically between projects. For example, a 3-minute case study can be shot in 1-2 days, whereas a 90-second promo could take days or even weeks. We’ll offer you guidance based on the complexities of your project.

How long do interviews last?

We need contributors to be available for at least 30 minutes. Depending on the project, however, the time requirement can be shorter or longer.

What should I wear on camera?

Please avoid bold colours, patterns, and stripes because they interfere with the screen. We also recommend not wearing large pieces of jewellery as they can visually distract from what you are trying to say.

When do I pay for my video?

We take payments in two instalments to spread the cost out for you: 50% on confirmation of the job (refundable deposit) to cover our immediate production expenses and 50% on final delivery.

How long do you store footage for?

We know how valuable your footage is for future updates to your video or for re-use in new projects, so we archive everything safely for a minimum of 15 years.
